Home

Welcome to the home of the Tasmanian Orchid Society. The society was formed in February, 1947, and, as such, is the oldest orchid society in Tasmania.

Today, the society continues to provide information, events  and social gatherings for orchid lovers in Hobart and surround areas, as well as staging public events including the much loved Hobart Orchid Show.

Monthly meetings are one of the highlights of the society’s calendar. The meetings take place on the 3rd Monday of each month, excepting December, where it is scheduled for the 2nd Monday. If in doubt about the date of any society event, please check the newsletter or the website calendar.

The Greenhood

The Greenhood Orchid is the common name for a number of Australian terrestrial orchids, some of which are found in Tasmania. This fact has inspired the Tasmanian Orchid Society to take on the orchid as its emblem, with the society also naming the newsletter in its honour.

The Greenhoods (Pterostylis) account for 36 Of Tasmania’s 200 odd native orchid species.
